We want to wish everyone in the northern hemisphere a Blessed Imbloc which will be coming up on February 2, 2010.It is a time for purification & cleansing as we bid farewell to the winter and welcome the coming warmth. We sweep away the dead season and light bonfires and candles to banish the darkness and welcome the light. This day marks the onset of spring, the beginning of new life in the belly of the Earth~ I can’t wait until spring, its cold here, around 17 degrees at night and yes, still snow! Though, I have to say, the winter this year has not been real bad and kind of mild! We have not had much snow this year!
May love and light be upon you as we are turning from the dark half to the light. May you sweep negativity away and positive energy be with you.

This is our third show!! It has been so nice and warm in Michigan and now back to reality it is cold and going to snow next week!! Well, that is Michigan weather... Wait 5 minutes and it will change!! Thank you new friends Pagans Today and Medium Laura Evans, Pagan Perspectives for adding us as a friend! As of today we have 75 shows and 40 listens!

Feedback: I had a question emailed me from Jen and she asked me when the show will be on I tunes. So Jen if you are listening, it will be after we have broadcasted six shows. I will set up the show to also broadcast on I tunes.

Sorry we could not do the show yesterday as scheduled but, there was a schedule conflict so I rescheduled the show for today!! She was created from the foam of the crystal waters of Paphos in the island of Cyprus, when the Titan Cronos slain his father, the major Titan Ouranos, and threw then his genitals into the sea.

Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, who was the Olympian God of the Iron and was known as the ugliest God but, her heart was devoted to Ares, the God of War, with whom Aphrodite was having a passionate, but secret love affair.

Aphrodite is the mother of the god of love, Eros (more familiar as Cupid),Demos,Rhodes, Harmonia, Phobos,Pothos, Hemeros

She is also by some seen as being from the sea foam. She is often connected with Astarte and Ishtar.

God of the Month –Zeus

Zeus was known as the father of all Gods. He was ruler of mankind. He is one of the most well known Gods. He is of the Greek pantheon and God of the Sky. Child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea.

Titan Cronus was known for being a very jealous, self indulgent, and only thinking of himself so he swallowed every child that Rhea, his wife gave birth to, and it was out of the fear one of his children would steal his throne.

However, when Zeus was born, Rhea managed to trick Cronus with the help of the titans.Uranus and Gaea , giving her husband a rock in swaddling clothes to swallow instead of her baby. Rhea then sent Zeus away to live his life on the Greek island of Crete.

Zeus was raised secretly by the Nymphs and was fed by the goat nurse Amaltheia with honey and milk.

Soon came the day where Zeus grew up and wanted to claim the World and he started a war against his father and the Titans. Zeus managed to liberate his five elder brothers and sisters from his father's stomach by giving him a special herb and making him this way so he could throw up his siblings. With the help of his siblings, Zeus then overthrew the Titans in the depths of the Underworld which were known as Tartarus.

After overthrowing his father Cronus, Zeus was confronted with the Giants and the monster Typhoon, which he fought and won the war. The world was than Zeus’s and his brothers and sisters. They wanted to figure out who would rule the world so they drew lots and Zeus won the draw and was the ruler of the world. He ruled and lived on Mount Olympus, the highest mountain. Zeus was an amorous god who had a roving eye.

The first wife of Zeus was Metis, who was the goddess of wisdom and deviousness. Zeus was so worried that he would lose his Kingdom by his first offspring as it was told in a prophecy that he would, so he decided to swallow Metis when she became pregnant to Athena.

Next, Zeus married Themis, who was the titaness of justice, who bore him the Horae(the hours) and the Moirae(the Fates).

Zeus also mated with the Oceanid Eyrynome, which this is where the three graces were said to be come from. The three graces where goddeses of charm, beauty, and joy.

Zeus afterwards was lovers with several deities and mortals, including Demeter who bore him Persephone (the goddess of the Underworld), Leto, with whom he created the twin gods Artemis and Apollo,the mountain nymph Maia who brought into the world Hermes, and also Mnemosyne, who created the Muses, the goddesses of Arts in Ancient Greek Mythology.

Finally, Zeus picked his sister Hera, who was the goddess of Marriage to become his wife. Together, Zeus and Hera had four children. Eilithya, who was protecting the childbirth, Ares, the god of war, Hebe, the goddess of youth and Hephaestus the god of Metallurgy.

However, Zeus kept having affairs even after his marriage, He was a lusty man lol Zeus never was faithful and he still was cheating on Hera constantly with several mortals and the deities such as Europe , Semele or Alkmene, the mother of Heracles, outraging this way Hera, who was constantly seeking for revenge for his constant not keeping it in his pants!

Divination:

History of Divination: MYSTIC

From the earliest stages of civilization, since as far back as people there have been various means of divination to communicate with the supernatural. . The ancient Romans favored augury (The art of interpreting divine signs was known as augury (augurium). This form of divination was performed by the Roman augurs (augures) and magistrates. Originally augury was performed by interpreting signs from birds to determine whether a proposed action had divine approval) and the Etruscans favored haruspicy, which is a Divination method using animal entrails. The Egyptians, Druids, and Hebrews relied on scrying. The Druids also read entrails of sacrificed animals. The Greeks had their oracle which spoke for the gods. In the Middle Ages grain, sand or peas were tossed onto a field in order to read the patterns that they made after they fell on the ground. Divination can be traced back as far as 1000 BC. Chinese had used the I -Ching which is an oracle which involves the tossing and reading of long short yarrow sticks Divination is most often practiced as a means of foretelling the future, and sometimes the past. It is one of the primary practices used by those that practice the occult such as witches, wizards, medicine men, sorcerers, and shamans. Another ancient Chinese divinatory practice which is still used today is "feng-shui," or geomancy, which involves the erecting of buildings, tombs, and other physical structures by determining the currents of invisible energy throughout the earth. In today’s, world most people also are using feng shui to arrange the furniture in a home or office.

Many practitioners of divination today feel that the art of divination is to help persons and homes and the practice of Divination is not necessarily written in stone – it is simply an aid to help with situations. Most who practice divination believe they still have free choices in their future.

Mystic: There are various types of divination you can practice. I love to do tarot, (cartomancy) pendulum, mirror, water, fire scrying. I also like tasseography or tea leaf reading. I have done areomancy which is when you divine with the clouds and sky. I have worked with an ouja board as well. I have no problems working with the ouja board. The key thing is to ground, center and protect well. It is also good to not work alone in case problems arise. I have had some outstanding positive experiences. I have worked with a dowsing rod and it was very cool walking around and seeing what energy fields were around my house.

Fire: As Mystic has said there are various methods of divination out there, the essential key to them is to find what is right for you. I currently practice as well as utilize various type of the Tarot Cards, Runes, Rune Cards, Crystal Ball, Mirror Scrying, Fire Scrying, Water Scrying, Tea Leaf, Astrology, Capnomancy (divination by smoke), Clairaudience is divination by hearing things inaudible normally, Clairvoyance is divination by "second sight", Bibliomancy is divination by random passages in books. (also called Stichomancy), Biorhythm, and a few others. I enjoy them all and I continue to work with them to keep my skill intact.

Various Types:

Everyone has heard of the common ones so today I would like to first talk about ones you may never heard about:

ALECTRYOMANCY is divination whereby a bird is allowed to pick corn grains from a circle of letters.

ALEUROMANCY is divination using "fortune cookies"

ALOMANCY is divination by table salt.

ANTHROPOMANCY is the long-outlawed means of divination by human sacrifice.

APANTOMANCY is divination through chance meetings with animals (e.g., a black cat), birds, and other creatures.

ARITHMANCY or ARITHMOMANCY is an earlier form of NUMEROLOGY where divination is made through numbers and the number value of letters.

ASTRAGLOMANCY or ASTRAGYROMANCY is a form of divination by dice where the faces of the dice bear numbers and letters.

AUGURY is the general term for the art of divination and is chiefly applied to interpretations of signs and omens.

AUSTROMANCY is divination of the wind

AXIOMANCY is divination through the observation of how an ax or hatchet quivers or points when driven into post.

BELOMANCY is an ancient form of divination performed by tossing or balancing arrows.

BIBLIOMANCY involves divination by books.

BOTANOMANCY is divination from burning tree branches and leaves.

CAPNOMANCY is the study of smoke rising from a fire.

CATOPTROMANCY is an early form of crystal gazing that utilizes a mirror turned to the moon to catch moonbeams.

CAUSIMOMANCY is divination from behavior of objects placed in a fire.

CEPHALOMANCY refers to divination with the skull or head of a donkey or goat.

CERAUNOSCOPY seeks to draw omens from the study of thunder and lightning.

CEROSCOPY, CEROMANCY is a form of fortune telling in which melted wax is poured into cold water.

CHIROMANCY is divination from the lines on people's hands.

CHIROGNOMY is the study of the general hand formation.

CLEROMANCY is divination by "casting lots", similar to dice but with objects such as pebbles or sea shells.

CLIDOMANCY or CLEIDOMANCY is divination using a dangling key.

CROMNIOMANCY is divination using onion sprouts.

CYCLOMANCY is the practice of divination from a turning wheel.

DACTYLOMANCY is an early form of RADIESTHESIA using a dangling ring.

DAPHNOMANCY requires one to listen to laurel branches crackling in an open fire.

DEMONOMANCY is divination with the aid of demons.

DENDROMANCY is divination with either oak or mistletoe.

GASTROMANCY is an ancient form of ventriloquism whereby the voice is lowered to a sepulchral tone and prophetic utterances are delivered in a trance state.

GELOSCOPY is the divination from the tone of someone's laughter.

GENETHLIALOGY is divination by the influence of the stars at birth.

GEOMANCY is the study of figures on the ground and the influence of the Earth's "currents".

GRAPHOLOGY is the analysis of character through handwriting.

GYROMANCY is a divination procedure where a person walks in a circle marked with letters until they become dizzy and stumble at different points, thus spelling out a prophesy.

HARUSPICATION IS fortune-telling by means of inspecting the entrails of animals, as practiced by priests in ancient Rome.

HIEROMANCY or HIERSCOPY is divination by observing object of ancient sacrifice.

HIPPOMANCY is a form of divination from the stamping and neighing of horses.

HOROSCOPY is the practice of casting of astrological horoscopes.

HYDROMANCY is divination by water including the color, ebb and flow, or ripples produced by pebbles dropped in a pool.

ICHTHYOMANCY is divination using fish.

LAMPADOMANCY is divination using lights or torches.

LECANOMANCY uses a basin of water for divination.

LIBANOMANCY is the study of incense and its smoke.

LITHOMANCY is divination using precious stones of various colors.

MARGARITOMANCY is the procedure of using bouncing pearls.

METAGNOMY is the divination using "visions" received in a trance state.

METEOROMANCY is divination from meteors.

METOPOSCOPY is the reading of character using the lines if the forehead.

MOLEOSOPHY is the study of moles and indicators of a person's character and future indications.

MYOMANCY is the study of the prophetic meaning of behavior of rats and mice.

OMPHALOMANCY IS counting the number of knots in the umbilical cord to predict how many more children the mother will have

ONEIROMANCY is the interpretation of dreams and their prophetic nature.

ONOMANCY is the study of the meaning of names.

ONYCHOMANCY is the study of fingernails.

OOMANTIA and OOSCOPY is the method of divination by eggs.

OPHIOMANCY is divination from serpents.

ORNISCOPY and ORINITHOMANCY is the study of omens associated with birds, particularly birds in flight

OVOMANCY is another type of egg divination.

PEGOMANCY concerns itself with spring water and bubbling fountains and the omens contained therein.

PHRENOLOGY is the long practiced study of head formations or head bumps or called BUMPOLOGY

PHYLLORHODOMANCY is a means of divination whereby one slaps a rose petal against the hand and judges the favorability of the omen by the loudness of the sound.

PHYSIOGNOMY is the study of character analysis through physical features.

PSYCHOGRAPHY is a form of mysterious writing having a divinatory nature.

RADIESTHESIA is the general term for divination using a device such as a divining rod or pendulum.

RHABDOMANCY is divination using a stick or wand.

RHAPSODOMANCY is a means of divination using a book of poetry whereby the book is opened at random and a passage read.

SIDEROMANCY is the burning of straws with a hot iron, the resulting figures having divinatory properties.

SORTILEGE is the casting of lots and the assessment of omens indicated.

SPODOMANCY is divination using cinders or soot.

STICHOMANCY is another form of throwing open a book and selecting a random passage for the purpose of divination.

STOLISOMANCY draws omens from the way people dress.

SYCOMANCY is performed by writing messages on tree leaves; the slower they dry, the more favorable the omen. A modern variation is to write on slips of paper (always including one blank) and rolling them up. They are then held in a strainer over a boiling pot; the first to unroll will be answered.

TEPHRAMANCY is divination by ashes obtained from the burning of tree bark.

TIROMANCY is a type of divination using cheese.

XYLOMANCY is divination from pieces of wood, either from their shape when collected or their appearance while burning.

Get Out: Orionid Meteor Shower Peaks Overnight

The Orionid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show tonight into the predawn hours Wednesday, weather permitting.

This annual meteor shower is created when Earth passes through trails of comet debris left in space long ago by Halley's Comet. The "shooting stars" develop when bits typically no larger than a pea , and mostly sand-grain-sized, vaporize in Earth's upper atmosphere.

"Flakes of comet dust hitting the atmosphere should give us dozens of meteors per hour," said Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office.

People in cities and suburbs will see far fewer meteors, because all but the brightest of them will be overpowered by light pollution. The best view will be from rural areas (the moon will not be a factor, so dark skies will make for ideal viewing).

When and how to watch

The best time to watch will be between 1 a.m. and dawn local time Wednesday morning, regardless of your location. That's when the patch of Earth you are standing on is barreling headlong into space on Earth's orbital track, and meteors get scooped up like bugs on a windshield.

Peak activity, when Earth wades into the densest part of the debris, is expected around 6 a.m. ET (3 a.m. PT).

Some meteors could show up late tonight, too. Late-night viewing typically offers fewer meteors, however, because your patch of Earth is positioned akin to the back window of the speeding car.

The Orionids have been strong in recent years.

"Since 2006, the Orionids have been one of the best showers of the year, with counts of 60 or more meteors per hour," Cooke said.

Some of those counts come in flurries, so skywatchers should find a comfortable spot with as wide a view of the sky as possible. Lie back and allow 15 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness, then give the show at least a half hour to play out through spurts and lulls. Meteors could appear anywhere in the sky, though traced back they will appear to emanate from the constellation Orion.

Telescopes and binoculars are of no use, because meteors move too quickly. Extra warm clothing is a must, and a blanket and pillow or lounge chair allows comfortable positioning so you can look up for long stretches.

Reliable event

Predicting meteor showers is tricky because the debris comes from multiple streams.

Each time comet Halley passes around the sun on its elongated orbit – every 76 years – it lays down a fresh track of debris for Earth to plow through in subsequent years. Those tracks spread out and mingle over time, and we pass the tracks each October during our 365-day, nearly circular trek around the sun.

Japanese researchers Mikiya Sato and Jun-ichi Watanabe say activity in recent years is related to debris put in place from 1266 BC to 911 BC, and this could be another good year, according to NASA.

Even if that prediction does not hold, the Orionids will almost surely put on a decent show. Prior to 2006 and going back many years, the Orionids have produced a reliable 15 to 20 meteors per hour at the peak, for skywatchers with dark skies.

As a bonus, this time of year you can expect an additional five to 10 sporadic meteors per hour – those not related to the shower.

Samhain!!

The Sabbats are the holidays of pagans and faeries. They are important to faeries and pagans since the dawn of time. The Sabbats are key times when portals are open and the human and the Fae world connect. This is the time the veil is thinnest during these eight Sabbats. The fairy energy is most present and accessible as well. These are the seasons or the turning of the wheel. The year turns like a big wheel slowly. It goes from the light half to the dark half of of year. Did you ever notice how in the summer it stays dark until late? Also in the winter it gets dark very early. Pagans have holidays and celebrate them just like any other person. We also have a day to honor our ancestors, which is Samhain. We feel it is necessary to honor that have come before us and they guide us when needed. Samhain is the third and final harvest. It is also known as the “witches new year” and is on October 31.

Some of the various names of Samhain are: Samhain (Celtic), Shadowfest (Strega), Martinmas or Old Hallowmas (Scottish/Celtic), as well as Hallowe'en, Hallowmas, All Hallow's Eve, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Feast of Spirits, Third Harvest, Samonios, All Saint's Eve, Celtic New Year, Samhuinn, Celtic Winter, Samana, Festival of Pamona, Vigil of Saman, Vigil of Todos, and Santos. Though this Holiday is celebrated on October 31st, All Hallows Eve falls on November 7th, and Martinmas on November 11th.
With the Wheel turned to Samhain, it marks the end of Summer, and is now the beginning of Winter.
This is the time of year that pagans honor their Ancestors with a feast of the dead – also known as the dumb/silent supper; it also celebrates the Dark Mysteries. The time when the veil is the thinnest so it is easier to communicate with the Spirit World.
Some of the symbols for Samhain are: Various Halloween decorations such as Jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, ghouls, witches, the cauldron, the Broom / Besom
Some Deities associated with Samhain are: ALL Crone Goddesses, and the Dead/ Dying God, Hecate, Mari, Psyche, Lilith, Ishtar, Inanna, The Morrigu/Morrigan, and Cerridwen.
Some things to keep in mind during the coming months now that the Wheel has turned to Samhain and Winter is near are: honoring and communicating to those that have passed before us, inner changes and self reflection, endings and beginnings.
Magicks for this time of year can include: protections, boosting your security and confidence – remember your self esteem needs a boost of energy during the dark half of the year!
MYSTIC: My experience with Samhain. The first time I experienced Samhain, I felt like I came home as I always felt connected with this Sabbat, even though the Christians call it Halloween. I always enjoyed the energy that was felt at this time. I knew it was a magical time, even before I was a Witch.
My first group experience for Samhain was with a group of friends in my area. This was after the death of my first son, and I was extremely nervous and very emotional. I was also nervous due to this was my first public Sabbat. I really did not want or expect to go, however when you have a Cancer on the cusp of a Leo, as your sister, it can be quite difficult to get the message of NO across. The energy was powerful, and I did feel the presence of my son. I still have a physical item of that event that I cherish. It was a somber time, however I do know that the Goddess felt I needed to laugh, thus I looked over and my sister was at the altar, paying her respects to her ancestors, and what did I see? Flames – flames coming from Fire’s hair! So not only me, but everyone in the ritual had a good laugh, including Fire, who by the way was fine as I did help her put out her spark of hair fire.
And I know that this was a message to me, that things were going to be ok with my life.
Now, on to Fire for her special memories of Samhain….

FIRE: Gee thanks Sis, and here I was getting to the point of forgetting that bit of humiliating news ha ha. Well, lets see, a Samhain ritual memory..hmm theres a few I can say, but I think I am going to tell you all of the one that we first put on as a newly formed Coven (and lets see is Mystic can remember it). It was, like most Octobers in Michigan, very cold and of course there was a dusting of snow already upon the Earth. Well, we had only been a true Coven -practicing together – for less than a year – and we decided to have this Ritual at my house, in my back yard. Well, we set the altar up, gathered everyone and this particular spell called for a cauldron as well as a small fire pit to be lit. Well, you are listening to a Water first and foremost and Mystic is Earth, the others there were no where near a Fire element either! Needless to say, the cauldron and the pit, though both heavily doused in lighter fluid would not lit, no matter what. Well, long story short, out of the 13 people there, we had to call my husband and father into the Circle to get the flames moving. The rest of the Ritual went fine, but this sticks in m y head because it is a constant reminder that the Deities, no matter the Ritual will laugh at you and with you. And so will your ancestors – the loving pranksters they are!

Well first I would like to introduce myself, I am your Host, Mystic. I would like to tell you a bit about myself and my path. I consider myself a witch; a witch is not bad, it is just another path out there and I follow the beat of my own drum. Being a Witch I honor Nature as well as the Seasons and Mother Earth.

I do not necessarily follow a hierarchy, as I make this path my own- follow my heart wherever my chosen path may lead me. I have been walking this path for 12 years now and it has brought me tremendous blessings and joy.
I am from Michigan and have been happily married for 25 years. I have two lovely (yet mischievous) fur babies – Isis and Salem – and a water baby by the name of George.

When I am not helping my community or have other commitments, I enjoy gardening, soap making, various bath salts and oils, crafts, extending my knowledge in herbology, various reading materials. I enjoy going to Pagan events and simply enjoying my friends and extended family.

Now, the reason that my Co-Host and I have decided to do this radio show is that we wish to positively promote pagans, in all areas, and to educate the public that our chosen paths are not evil - nor are we. We feel that by bringing paganism to the mainstream public in an open and friendly way, this will shine a light on us, our chosen paths and paganism. We feel that there should be open communication as well as acceptance of all persons and all paths regardless of who they are or what path they follow.

Hello All, I am the Co-Host of the Cauldron Within Show .
You have been introduced to Mystic and learned about her chosen path, now I wish to tell you a little about myself and my chosen path.
I am a Wiccan – this means to me that I follow the Wiccan Rede and the beliefs – though I am eclectic- as I make it my own as well.

I do follow a type of hierarchy – however not strictly. I, like Mystic, like the beat of my own drums – even if that beat has no rhythm at times. I have been on my path for 17 years now – though I feel that I have evolved over those many years to what I am now.

I too am from Michigan and have been happily married for 12 years – though I did have a Handfasting 4 years ago – simply because my husband wanted one.

Now, unlike Mystic, I have a few more fur babies – these would be my familiars – all dogs – they are Lady Inanna, Shyanne, Penny, Slim and Harry. My other animals include two more fur babies (guinea pigs) and a water baby – my turtle Kit.

When I am not helping my community or have other commitments, I too enjoy making soaps, various bath salts and oils, crafts, candles and simply extending my knowledge in various reading materials. I too, like Mystic enjoy going to Pagan events and enjoying my friends and extended family.

Joining a Coven or Other Pagan Group -- Red Flags to Avoid

In an earlier article here on Witchvox, I talked about the need to decide whether to join a group or stay solitary in your early days/years on the Pagan path. If you’ve chosen the group route, there are still some things you need to know before you actually become a member. Much as we’d all love to believe that the Pagan community is above such things, there really are some groups – and group leaders – that care more for their own egos or bank balances than your education.

Here’s how to spot the worst of the worst:

Stay away from any group that tries to convince you that theirs is the only true path of spiritual development. The Pagan community includes Witches, Druids, Asa Tru, Dianics, Radical Faeries, British Traditionalists and Greek Reconstructionists, just to name a few. It’s a pretty poor coven that manages to say – with a straight face, no less – “we are the only ones who have the Truth” (whatever that is) . Trust me, you already know better than that.

Watch out for any leader, male or female, who uses sex as a “fee” in order for you to be accepted into the group or to receive further instruction. Way back when I was a novice Pagan, there was a local community leader who preferred women – young SINGLE women – as students. Fortunately for me, he very politely steered me to the only other coven in the area once he realized that I was married.

When the stories eventually came out that he was demanding sex on a regular basis from his female students, I felt like I’d dodged a bullet. I’ve heard the rumor that some British Traditionalist groups incorporate sexual intercourse into some of their high-level rituals; I am not referring to that practice here.

Abuse has no place in a Pagan ritual. By abuse, I include physical, sexual and emotional. Over the course of about three years I was physically slapped (repeatedly!) , sexually touched by someone I’d rather not have been touched by, and verbally abused by someone who was supposedly channeling the African goddess Oshun – all in ritual. Eventually it all got to be too much for me, and I became absolutely ritual-phobic for a while; I could not sit in a cast circle without panicking (I’m better now) .

Please be aware that I am not including before-the-fact consenting (very important) adults who choose to incorporate elements of BDSM into their worship practice. If you find a group like that, they will tell you so up front, and leave the option to participate up to you.

Run screaming from any group or leader who uses intimidation or “guilt-tripping” to get you to do what they want instead of what your inner guide thinks is right for you. If you are training with a coven, you may not always understand right away why you are being taught something. However, this is not the same as making you feel gut-wrenchingly scared or guilty if you want to sit with your hospitalized spouse when you “should be” attending a holiday ritual, stay home with a sick child rather than go to your Wicca 101 class, choose to have a bill-paying job rather than work in the group leader’s witchy shop for free, or even leave the coven.

The required or unknowing use of hallucinogens or any other drug for spiritual development has very much fallen out of fashion in the Pagan community since the 1970s. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Also, be wary of any group that has no qualms about serving you ritual wine even though you’ve told them you’re not yet twenty-one.

Likewise, if you have told your group leaders that you are a friend of Bill (or pregnant, or on antibiotics) and they continue to expect you to actually consume wine or mead in ritual – as opposed to helping you find a way to honor the fermented stuff without physically drinking it – you may need to leave this group alone.

A legitimate leader should not be evasive, vague, or inconsistent when asked about his/her background, training or credentials. Even if this leader is not British Traditional, he or she should have some sort of verifiable history. My spouse and I received many kudos in the Pagan community by honestly telling our students that we are not classically trained but started our coven in response to 9/11. We did not invent a lineage or elusive Wiccan grandmother and this impressed people. A likewise honest coven leader should impress you.

You are not likely to learn very much from a group in which more energy is spent on political infighting, fundraising, or recruiting than on spiritual development. There’s nothing wrong with raising funds for a community project – a newsletter, gathering or Pagan Pride picnic – but it should be the responsibility of the community as a whole, not just your coven or grove.

Run, do not walk, away from any group that blames all the “bad stuff” that’s happened to the group as a whole and to individual members on the student who just left. The longer you stay, the more they’ll be able to scapegoat you for when it’s your turn to bail out. Good groups, groups that legitimately have something to teach care more about the quality of students than the quantity.

Any coven leader worth the title would rather have five good students who are committed to enhancing their relationship with the Gods than twenty-five students who just think Paganism is “cool.”

Should your coven or grove have any sort of collective financial obligations, worry if the leaders are vague or secretive about the funds they collect and the use to which those funds are put.

It’s okay to ask students to chip in a couple of dollars if, say, the group is charged a fee for holding classes or workshops at a particular room or hall.

It’s not okay to be asked to “tithe” a certain amount to the coven leaders on a regular basis solely for the privilege of being in the group. You are doing nothing more than paying their mortgage or funding their next vacation to Hawaii. And no legitimate Pagan or Wiccan teacher charges for classes or initiation.

Ever. No money. Period.

Above all, don’t participate in anything you feel isn’t right for you! If a group displays none of the above red flags but you still get an icky feeling about joining – don’t. If you join a group and just aren’t comfortable with what you’re being asked to do – vote with your feet and leave.

Be aware, though, that there is a mature, adult way to leave (peacefully, quietly, with no community gossiping or badmouthing later) and there is a childish way to leave (with a loud temperamental flounce and constantly cutting down the group and its members to the community at large) and it’s your choice which way to go. If you stay true to your own morals and ethics, don’t worry! The Gods will eventually lead you to some wonderful people who share those ethics.

What Is Distant Healing

1. What is "Distant Healing" ? - Distant healing is a Reiki session that is sent from a Reiki practitioner or master in one geographic location to a person who requested the healing in another geographic location.

2. Does Distant Healing work as well as physical Reiki treatments? - Yes, the results of distant healings are just as good as the results of sessions done in the physical. Being treated with Reiki (a series of sessions) via the distant technique is also as effective.

3. Where does this distant healing technique come from? - Dr. Usui who developed Reiki also developed the distant healing technique. He called it "The Photograph Technique." He called it that because he required a photo of the person receiving Reiki in order to send the Reiki energy to them.

4. Can anybody do distant healing sessions? - Anyone who is a level two Reiki Practitioner or a Master can provide this service.

5. Can I request distant healing for someone else? - Yes you can. It is courteous to have their permission before requesting healing for them. Sometimes the person needing the healing can't be asked. In these situations, many Practitioners and Masters will send Reiki with the condition that it be received only if the person that it is sent to is willing to receive it. In this way, nothing is forced on anyone.

6. Is this the same as prayer? - No, not really. With a prayer, we are asking for someone to be healed. We send our prayer and ask that healing be sent to the one for whom we pray. With a distant healing session, the Practitioner is sending Reiki directly to the person wanting or needing the healing. In this way they are different.

7. Does distant healing cost money? - There are many places and people found on the internet that will send distant healing free of charge. There are others who want to be compensated for their work. There is no rule about this.

8. How much information should I give when requesting distant healing? - As much as you feel comfortable giving. At the minimum, you need to provide the person's name and the physical location at the time the healing is to be received. This is usually enough on anonymous request boards and prayer services. If you are working with someone on a regular basis, you may want to provide more information. Emailing scanned photos to the provider can increase the strength of the connection for some healers.

9. Are there other names for "Distant Healing" ? - Yes. Some Reiki practitioners and masters refer to distant healing as "abstensia healing" or it may be called "remote healing". These are all the same.

10. Are there other uses for "distant healing" other than sending healing to some one? - Yes. This technique can be used to travel across time, rather than across physical distances. This is a good technique for working with childhood issues or traumas, any thing that has happened to us in the past. wicca and witchcraft are not the same. They mean two different things. Wiccans believe in the rede and concept of "harm ye none". Alot of people use these two terms interchangably and they are not. Take a deep cleansing breath, than slowly let it out

Another cleansing breath... This time breathe out real slow and imagine all the tension, the everyday stress going out of your body. You are relaxed and nothing can harm you in this place. You are warm and comfortable. You get out of your car and it is a cool spring day. You look around and notice the sky is overcast and very gloomy. There is a dense forest ahead of you. You look up and see some of the sun’s rays are peeking through the clouds. You notice the tender buds that are sprouting all over the limbs of the trees. You even see a little robin singing his little tune that is the harbinger of spring. The ground is mostly bare in spots but there are bits of snow peeking through the grass. The grass is not yet green. You keep walking and you can still hear leaves crunching on the ground while you walk through the path that is the entrance to the dense forest. You smile as you enter. You are quietly walking and are admiring nature’s beauty. You hear something rustling in the bushes. You are very curious that something is making a noise. It is not a scary noise at all. Than you see a hare popping out of the bushes. The hare stops in its tracks dead center of the path. It looks at you and than you look back at it. You are both staring at each other and you notice the beautiful brown coat of the hare. It is very shiny and smooth. It seems as the hare is telling you to follow it. So you follow it to a birch tree. You notice the silvery branches of the birch tree. You admire the beauty. You than look over to your right and notice a bench so you decide to sit on it for a while as you are tired and have been walking for awhile. For some reason, you look up from the tree, and are surprised to find a woman present. She is clad all in a flowing flowery dress, and holds a covered basket. Her gaze is steady, her eyes make you think of clear streams running in the middle of old forests, her skin reminds you of the first fair flower of spring, and her hair is long and gleaming. She gestures to you to come forward and speak with her. You slowly walk towards her. You feel a warm comfortable feeling. You do not fear this woman. You feel like she is an old friend. She tells you that she has some gift for you. You smile. . You than realize that is the Goddess Ostara you are visiting with and she wants you to have this particular gift for spring She shows you a basket full of colored eggs. She asked you to take a colored egg from the basket. So you take a colored egg. You take the egg and hold it high and thank the Goddess Ostara for the precious gift. You than notice she has already disappeared. What does the egg represent to you? Think to yourself what the decoration on the egg means, and what the egg and spring means to you. . You wonder if it has all been a dream. The reality of the egg in your hand tells you otherwise, and you know you have received the blessing of the Goddess Ostara. You look up and you notice that the trees now have tiny, but beautifully formed green leaves at the end of their branches. And you notice that the birch tree had been struck by lightning, the one that looked dead, now has little green tender shoots rising from its split trunk. As you make your way out of the birch grove, it seems that the clouds have lifted and are wispy and even as you think this, the sun comes out. Small, barely formed flowers lightly scent the forest floor, birds are singing, and the rich smell of moist earth fills your nose. You decide it is time for your journey to end. You quietly get up and slowly make your way down the path. You see the hare and it is bidding you farewell. You slowly walk out of the dense forest back into your car. You breathe slowly in and then slowly out and begin awakening. Your toes wake up and wiggle. Your legs, thighs, upper thigh feel less heavy. Your stomach, chest, neck, and head feel lighter. You feel at peace, you feel calm and reflect on the magickal journey you just have been on. You know that you can go to this place and visit Goddess Ostara at any time you wish.

to Hex or not is the question??

This subject has been kicked around on other podcasts and various other places so I will now post my opinion:

I do not think that you should irresponsibly go willy nilly around hexing and cursing people just for the pure sake of doing it because you can or you want to scare someone. You must be responsible for what you do. I believe very much in that you must protect yourself and others in any means, or way possible that you have to. So in a nutshell; yes, I believe in extreme circumstances hexing and cursing someone can be done. Now, I know some are screaming up and down oh my goddess she can't do that but, I can as it is my path. I do though use hexes and curses as a last resort when all other measures are exhausted in the situation. No, I will not send you any spells either so please do not ask!

Background:

This a personal pledge is found on dozens locations on the Internet. It has been attributed to "Anon," and to many other authors. Often, it is shown without attributing the work to anyone.

It seems to have been written by Selena Fox of Circle Sanctuary. She describes her personal Pagan spiritual path, including the use of spiritual energy to help others, of tolerance, avoidance of harm to others, Karma, the Three-fold Law, the Goddess and God within, etc.
A pledge:

I am a Pagan and I dedicate myself to channeling the Spiritual energy of my inner self to help and to heal others and myself.

Seekers Bill Of Rights

Seekers on the pagan path are in an extremely vulnerable position. In their quest for fellowship and teaching, they risk encountering those who use faith to prey on others. To empower the Seekers of our community, a Seeker's Bill of Rights has been drafted. This tool will help to alert Seekers of a problem if a group or teacher violates any of the ten rights described. It will also serve to remind Seekers that while they do not have "degrees", they are still human beings with rights and dignity. (Written by Charles Mars, Texas Local Council Member and 1999-2002 National CoG Board Member)

I. The Right to Verify Credentials

Seekers shall not be obstructed from substantiating claims made by a teacher or group. In the case of Elders that were inspired to create a new tradition, the Seeker has the right to know the circumstances surrounding the inception of that tradition.

II. The Right to Anonymity

Seekers have the right to keep their involvement in the occult a secret to preserve their personal & professional lives.

III. The Right to Financial Stability

Seekers shall not be required or coerced into taking on any financial burdens on behalf of a teacher or group.

IV. The Right to Compensation for Professional Goods & Services

Seekers have the right to be paid for goods produced and/or skilled labor from which they would normally receive an income. Seekers shall not be required or coerced into providing discounts or "freebies" on behalf of a teacher or group.

V. The Right to Sexual Freedom

Seekers shall not be required or coerced into sexual relations with unwanted persons, nor shall Seekers be restricted from sexual relations with consenting adults.

VI. The Right to Physical Well-Being

Seekers shall not be required or coerced into submitting to any form of physical injury or abuse.

VII. The Right to Abide by te Law

Seekers shall not be required or coerced into committing any illegal act.

VIII. The Right to Consistency

Seekers have the right to expect consistency in policies by a teacher or group. Seekers should be formally informed in a timely manner of any policy changes.

IX. The Right to Separation with Impunity

Seekers have the right to discontinue association with any teacher or group without fear of harassment or reprisal.

X. The Right to be at Peace with One's Conscience

Seekers shall not be required or coerced into committing any action contrary to their own sense of ethics and morality.

Things to consider if you might wish to start a coven or even a group

I would first recommend a study group before committing to starting a coven. This way you can get your feet wet and see how everyone interacts. But, if this is what you desire I would ask her many questions such as these below?

What is your experience as an High Priestess ?
Why do you wish to start a coven?
What are your personal beliefs?
What kind of coven will it be?
Will it be structured or not?
Will the coven celebrate the sabbats and esbats or not?
What will be the policies concerning rituals? Sky clad or not?
Open or closed rituals?
What would the programs of study in the coven?
What are the expectations of the members of the coven?
How would you handle conflicts in the group?
How would you handle unwanted behaviors in the group?
Is it a family coven or adult run group?
How often will you meet? Just for sabbats, esbats or what?
Where will you hold your meetings?

A coven leader wears many hats such as:
Teacher
Counselor
Admin
Clergy
Friend

Also You do not want to work with someone that wants you to compromise your beliefs such as saying you need to do sex acts to join or get your degrees or diminish your dignity in any shape, form or fashion, or doing drugs or anything you find offensive or against the law. NO coven should be telling you do these things. Make sure the leaders are not on some power trip. If they are and if they pressure you to start one that RUN as fast as you can. You should be comfortable with the people in a coven as "trust" is a big thing. The coven leader should be able to answer these and any questions you may have. If they do not that is not the group or people you should be involved with.

Barack Obama is reportedly steaming mad after learning that his mother-in-law is openly practicing Santeria in the White House.

72-year-old Marian Robinson, who lives in the White House and looks after Obama brats Sasha and Malia, began practicing the Afro-Hispanic witchcraft in the late 1980’s to help her ailing husband, who was crippled from multiple sclerosis. Robinson took him “to ceremonies where they did spells and trances, and sacrificed animals, chickens and goats,” which upset Michelle, a close friend reports. “But Marian was desperateand kept going anyway, even when her husband was to sick to go with her.” Michelle never brought up the incidents after her father passed away in 1993.

The friend says Robinson is now afraid for her health and recently invited an old friend with whom she practiced Santeria with to the White House. Michelle is said to have “flipped” when she saw the woman

Obama “is quite upset about this on two different levels. First, he is a committed Christian, no matter what his critics say about Reverend Wright. He is adamant that Sasha and Malia be raised with Christian influences. He does not want them to be involved with African voodoo. And secondly, he is worried about the political fallout if his enemies get wind of this. Rev. Wright was bad enough, but this would be political suicide,” a close friend of Michelle’s confided.

Obama reportedly has told Michelle that her mother will have to go back to Chicago if she does not “stop this witchcraft mumbo-jumbo immediately” and ordered the Secret Service to not allow Marian’s friend to return to the White House.

preparing for podcast

My Co Host and I are preparing to podcast on Blog Talk Radio. We were going to do it strictly i tunes but thought that the call in feature would be more a bonus and we like the appeal of a "live" show. We are two zany witches who will talk about anything that comes to mind from witchcraft, wicca, occult and maybe that event or thing that just pissed us off. We also will be promoting events, organizations, books, authors and other things as we feel they contribute to the pagan lifestyle or are open minded. We had this show in mind for quite some time.
